Queue management for medical analysis labs

In a medical lab, everything happens between 7 and 10 a.m. Patients come in fasting for a glucose test or a check-up, often before work, and nearly all at once. Reception enters prescriptions, the waiting room fills up and everyone waits on an empty stomach. With ranna, patients take a sampling ticket by scanning a QR at the entrance, follow their position on their phone and can wait in the car. Their phone rings when a sampling room frees up.

What goes wrong today

  • The fasting morning rush

Everyone wants to go before breakfast or before work: the room is full at opening and patience runs out fast.

  • Two waits in a row

First reception for the prescription and payment, then the blood draw. Without a visible order between the two, nobody knows who is next.

  • Results at the same counter

People picking up a results envelope queue behind people arriving for a full panel, for a one-minute errand.

How it works with ranna

  1. 01

On arrival, the patient scans the QR at the entrance, or reception creates the ticket from the console after entering the prescription.

  2. 02

They see how many patients are ahead and an estimate based on the real pace of sampling, then wait wherever they like.

  3. 03

When a nurse is free, they tap Call from their room, on a phone or a tablet.

  4. 04

The patient’s phone rings and shows “Sampling room 1”; the waiting room TV shows the same number and room.

What matters to you

One queue per step

Reception, sampling, results pickup: one counter each, so collecting an envelope never waits behind a full panel.

The lab’s own wording

Each sampling room calls from its own console. The ticket, the TV screen and the messages talk about patients and rooms, not orders.

Mornings in numbers

Patients and waiting times by day and hour: enough to decide whether a second nurse is needed between 7:30 and 9.

Frequently asked questions

Can we separate sampling and results pickup?

Yes. Create a “Sampling” counter and a “Results” counter: each queue moves at its own pace and patients know where to go.

How much does ranna cost for a lab?

The Free plan covers one counter and 300 tickets a month, with no hardware to buy. For several counters, services or branches, the SMEs & Enterprise plan is priced on request: write to [email protected].

What medical data is stored?

None. A ticket holds a number, times and, if the patient wants, a first name and phone. No prescription, no test type, no result.

What about priority patients or people without a smartphone?

The nurse can call any ticket in the list: a pregnant woman, a child, an elderly person. Those who don’t scan get a ticket from reception and are called on the screen.
